Nada Yoga & Bhavana: Using Sound and Imagery to Balance Mood

Sound affects the biochemistry of our brains as well as our moods. We'll be using various mantras combined with images to calm the mind and lift the mood. These strategies can be integrated into your daily home practice or yoga class to sustain optimal mental health. This tele-class is for all level of practitioners, including beginners. Yoga teachers and therapists will learn new strategies to empower their students and clients to manage their moods.

Learn a meditation that includes breath, mudra (sacred seal/hand gesture), and mantra.  This technique is especially useful in clearing the mental chaos that often accompanies both anxiety and depression. We’ll begin with a brief overview of the chakra system and how it relates to emotional issues. This protocol can be practiced by itself or as a portal into an extended sitting practice. Amy will also offer clinical applications for yoga teachers/therapists.

If you or someone you know is suffering from depression, you are not alone. According to the World Health Organization, depression affects about 121 million people worldwide and is the leading cause of disability among people from the ages of 15 to 44.  Yogis have always believed that depression is that separation from our source. Yoga, including postures, breathing exercises and meditation is the science of positive mental health. In this 3-part tele-class we will learn about the causes and proven yogic techniques for helping to alleviate depression. At the end of the three sessions you will have a firm understanding of depression and what yogic principles to apply for yourself as a teacher or student.

Trauma in the Tissues: LifeForce Yoga & Traumatic Stress Disorder

For thousands of years, yogis have understood what current research in neurobiology and clinical observations are demonstrating—that emotion, particularly traumatizing emotion is stored in the physical body.  In this experiential talk, we will explore how Yoga may be used to return to a life lived safely in the body.  As yoga teachers and therapists and serious practitioners of yoga, not only is it vital that we do our own releasing, clearing work, but it’s important to understand what our students may bring to the mat, and how to safely support them.  We’ll talk about:

    * Body sensing
    * Supportive Pranayama
    * Trauma releasing exercises
    * Therapeutic long holding of Yoga postures

FREE OpenLine: Yoga to Support Optimal Mental Health

In this tele-class people got to ask Amy anything they wanted to know about practicing Yoga to support optimal mental health.  It's easy to carry our chronic patterns of "getting it right" or "fixing ourselves" or "fixing" our students/clients onto the mat.  But when we practice with attention to sensation and breath, we can break through those damaging habits.   What are the ways we can best serve our own well-being and support our clients and students in managing their moods?  Ask anything about specific yogic strategies from asana to kriya (cleansing action), from pranayama to sankalpa (positive resolve), from bhavana (vision/imagery) to mantra that can help support optimum mental health.
